$1,798 DIY Dupe for under a $150.

I was in love with this $1,798 sideboard table but I was NOT in love with that price tag.

Let's break down all the things needed!

Supplies

Cube storage We had one previously we had purchased online!

•Chalk Paint & Foam Roller

Chose your desired color. We went with a "Classic Noir" by BEHR ($20 + $7)

•Thin Wood For Backing

We had some left over from another project.

•1 x 3 Pine Wood Common Board

We picked up 3 from Home Depot ($33)

•8 Flat Corner Brackets

One for each corner to hold together the cuts we made for the doors. ($24)

• 4 Hinges

We chose to go with 2 1/2 inch, black hinges since they blended in with the paint choice. ($12)

•Burlap

We got 10 yards from Joanne Fabrics. We had extra but because of the shape of the fabric we had to get a little more than actually needed to double it over to make it thicker. ($21)

•4 Adjustable Legs

We grabbed ours off Amazon. I love that they are adjustable! Especially for cleaning purposes! I can set it to the height I need to fit my vacuum under! ($25)

•2 Door Handles

Again, we chose black, round knobs to keep with the sleek look with the black. ($8)

•Nail Gun & Staple Gun & Screw Gun

Nail gun is optional if you don't choose to add a backing on the storage unit. Although we did countersink a few nails to make sure the doors had more rigidity. The staple gun you'll need to attach the burlap! A screw driver or screw gun is needed for the hinges, handles!

*OPTIONAL* •Polyurethane Finish

We chose to do a finishing coat with this only because.... well toddlers and toys being chucked across the living room is just asking for furniture paint to be chipped in a heartbeat.

•Saw

A saw of some sort to make your cuts unless you go with measurements beforehand and have Home Depot make them.

Take this...to that!

You got the stuff? Now What?

First, we sanded. You really don't have to with the chalk paint but we found we used a lot less paint and the product covered more evenly with first doing a light sand.

Next, add on the backing boards if you wish to completely enclose your cube storage. We did so the toys we store don't roll out the back! We did this step after paint. Then I had to go back and paint it anyway, so I advise doing it before!

Then, we paint! 2 coats did the trick!

I started on the bottom first, this way I could paint the bottom, let it dry while I worked on the sides, then add the legs. Once the sides were dry we were able to flip it right side up and start painting the top! After all that, let dry completely!

Now, time to build the doors! Get your measurements and cut. We then laid the pieces out and attached the flat L brackets to the back of the doors we just created to secure them in the place.

Next, we added hinges to the cube storage and attached the doors. I gave them 2 coats of paint as well once they were hung.

Once the doors were dry, we removed them from the judges and laid them on a towel on the floor (so the paint didn't scratch). Then, we laid out the burlap fabric and stapled in it place. Next, we doubled the fabric over and stapled to secure it again. Then we cut off the excess fabric.

Now the fun part, measuring out where the handles will go and making sure they're even. We pre-drilled the holes then secured the knobs in place!

We did choose to finish with a coat of polyurethane to seal and protect the chalk paint from chips or scratches from whatever our toddler may throw at it. Figuratively and literally!

Voilá! Now she's finished. In all her beauty!! Time to get decorating!

I'm hoping you are inspired by our DIY. Trust me, if we can do it, so can you!!!

Good luck!
